UPDATE: ok, two things. first, i realized that i don't agree with the lyrics that i kinda paraphrased from bloc party's song 'banquet'...about turning away from the light and turning into myself. that sounds like a bad idea, really. i really meant "while turning away..." to be a shortened expression of "while [these lyrics] play through the speakers". second, i don't like the Dead Poets Society. i used to until i read this article. i do, however, like ezra pound's idea of "make it new" when it comes to poetry. i think traditions for syntax, grammar, punctuation, rhyme scheme, etc. should be experimented with to come up with new ways of expressing things through poetry. it's fun, and challenges writers/poets to keep it interesting and fresh. but i also had a good time writing an italian sonnet yesterday, so tradition should not be thrown to the curb. the end.
